The Federal Polytechnic Offa was established in 1992. Its creation was announced by the then Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, during a visit to the Palace of His Royal Highness, Olofa of Offa, late Oba Mustapha Olawoore Olanipekun Ariwajoye II, in 1991. Formation of the Local Task Force
Following the presidential pronouncement, His Royal Highness, the Olofa, constituted a Local Task Force. This committee was chaired by Alhaji Tiamiyu Olatinwo and included six other notable indigenes of Offa, with Chief Ayotunde Raji serving as the Secretary. Their collective effort laid the groundwork for the institution’s successful launch.
Pioneering Leadership
Engr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Adeife Osemeikhian was the pioneer Rector of the Polytechnic. She led the institution from February 1992 to the year 2000. Under her leadership, the Federal Polytechnic Offa thrived, overseen by a Federal Task Force led by the Director of Science and Technology from the Federal Ministry of Education. This task force made crucial policy decisions and performed the duties of the Governing Council during its early years.
Subsequent Rectors and Leadership
After Engr. Osemeikhian’s tenure, Dr. Razaq Bello took over as Rector from 2000 to 2006. He was succeeded by Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo, who initially served as Acting Rector in 2006 and later became the third substantive Rector in 2008. Each leader brought their unique vision and dedication, contributing to the Polytechnic’s growth and success.
Governing Council Evolution
The institution’s governance has evolved through the years. The first Governing Council was established in 2000, followed by the second in 2005 and the third in 2009. The current and fourth council, chaired by Chief Okey Ezenwa, was inaugurated in April 2013. These councils have played a pivotal role in steering the Polytechnic towards achieving its goals.
